Study Permit allows international students to stay in Canada and study in the designated institution. In the study permit, you have an expiry date of the permit. That date tells you when your permission of living in Canada will expire. This date is usually the length of your study and an extra 90 days. If you want to extend your permit you have to apply beforehand. We are here to assist you through the process of getting a study permit and extending it.

Don’t worry if you are coming to a 1-year program (8 months course work) such as a post-baccalaureate program – Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate. You can still extend your study permit with 2nd program as soon as you finish your 1st program. For that, you need to apply for another program from the same or different Canadian Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs). You can even choose different fields of study.

Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP)

After finishing your study, if you want to stay more in Canada and do a job, you have to apply for a work permit. Post-Graduation Work Permit allows students who have graduated from any Canadian Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) to get a work permit to do any job in Canada. Therefore, You need to apply for Post-graduate Work Permit (PGWP) within 180 days after the completion of your degree.

If the length of program is longer than 2 years or more, you will get 3 years of work permit. Oppositely, if your program is less than 2 years, you will get the same length of work permit as of your program. However, for a master’s degree, the requirement is different. If the program length of your master’s degree is 16 months or more, you will get 3 years of Post-graduation Work Permit. Interestingly, there is no such hour limit under Post-graduate Work Permit (PGWP), you can work as much as you want. You should know the following eligible criteria for PGWP.

• You are or were holders of a valid study permit at the time of the post-graduation work permit application
• You were a full-time student enrolled at a DLI in a post-secondary academic, vocational, or professional training program
• You were authorized to work off-campus without a work permit
• You did not exceed the allowable 20 hours of work
